These are the names of the most known and powerful Yakuza families.
RITUALS
Like La Cosa Nostra, the Yakuza have rituals to symbolize many different things.
Yubizume or Yubitsume is a ritual used on members of the Yakuza for a penalty for their wrong doings or an apology. The ritual is peformed by a member of the Yakuza, getting a knife and string, and then cutting off the first joint of the left pinky finger. They then get the string and put it around the finger to staunch the bleeding. If they have to be given Yubizume again, they will cut off the next joint and then they move to the next finger and so forth. By doing this, they weaken the ability to fight with a Katana, which is the main weapon of the Yakuza. When they weaken somebody's ability to fight with a Katana, they heighten the risk of death.
Irezumi is a ritual given to most members of the Yakuza. It is a full body tattoo that is made by handmade tools. The process is very painful and can take years to comeplete.
Pearlings is a ritual performed by a member of the Yakuza when they are incarcerated in Jail. For each year spent in Jail the Yakuza member will insert one Pearl under the skin of the penis.
A Sake-sharing Ceremony is used to signify a bond of brotherhood, between members of the Yakuza or even a whole clan or family.
